Last night I was grinding up these Fort Smith / Arkoma / Pocola backroads and rolled past a driveway with a big cross and two signs: “Victory in Jesus” and “Jesus Saves.” I was hoping they might let me pitch my tent in their yard, but nobody answered the door.
A little farther down, I met Ricky. I asked if I could top off my water and he handed me three bottles and told me I could camp right there in his front yard on a flat spot. It dropped to 32°F overnight, frost all over the ground, but I slept knowing I was safe and welcomed.
This morning I’m letting the tent and gear thaw in the sun before I push on toward Williams and then down toward Shady Point / Poteau — still trying to dodge the worst of the hills, still thankful for every person God puts in my path, and for every one of you riding this journey with me.
