Over 7,500 German officers and infantrymen were imprisoned in the clandestine facility deep in the woods of Pennsylvania known as Camp Michaux. This POW camp also held 161 Japanese officers, and operated from 1943-1948, using interrogation tactics to get useful intelligence to take down the axis powers.
Today , I will be beginning my journey at the site of the Pine Grove Iron Furnace, an Iron mining community that was established in the 1770s, and then ascending up the mountain to see creeks, mountaintop views , and eventually explore the ruins of Camp Michaux. The many ruins that scatter the property are all a reminder of what happened out here, as the rest of the secret facility was torn down by the military.
Please enjoy this relaxing and informative journey into the woods of the Appalachian mountains to learn about this secret Prison camp, as well as set up by own campsite, set a big fire, find snake friends and eat dinner and live to hike another day .
